As we walk into post-COVID-19 shelter-in-place I have mixed emotions. I still have an underlying fear of my family contracting a disease that at present there is not a “cure” for. I also have anxiety when I go out in public. I ponder, does this mask-less lady, standing next to me in the cereal aisle, care if she spreads this disease? I then think “Debbie, get over this, put on your mask and enjoy life in the present ” Where does my mind go most of the time? To the later, enjoy life in the present.
Compared to life in early February 2020, I do need to live life differently. So how does this look for myself and my family?
As we live life post-COVID-19 shelter-in-place, I have put together a kit to protect our family. Aptly named ‘Post Shelter-in-Wellness Support Kit’
Our family’s kit contains Ningxia Red, Peace and Calming essential oil blend, Thieves Hand Sanitizer, Thieves essential oil blend, Valor essential oil blend, Peppermint essential oil, Lavender essential oil, and masks. Why each of these?

To aid a good night’s sleep we diffuse Peace & Calming. According to the Mayo Clinic, studies show that people who don’t get quality sleep are more likely to get sick after being exposed to a virus… Lack of sleep can also affect how fast you recover if you do get sick.
We use a gentle, chemical-free DIY foaming hand soap to wash our hands frequently.
DIY Foaming Hand Soap Recipe:
Ingredients:
1/4 C. Dr. Bronner’s Unscented Baby Castile Soap
8 drops Thieves essential oil blend (antibacterial and antiviral properties)
8 drops Young Living Lavender essential oil (skin healing/softening properties)
Fill the balance with purified water.
One daily ounce of Ningxia Red provides us antioxidants in our diet. Mayo Clinic tells us. “Antioxidants are substances that may protect your cells against free radicals, which may play a role in heart disease, cancer and other diseases.” Ningxia Red packs a punch with extracts from super fruits blueberry, pomegranate and wolfberries (goji berries). Benefits include support for cellular function and energy levels.
Peppermint essential oil supports our respiratory system as we exercise regularly. You’ll find our family walking, gardening, pulling weeds, or participating in an exercise video. Exercise can contribute to general good health and thus a healthy immune system.
The “normal” me craves human contact. While I have contact with my family, I crave the conversations in the church lobby with Carol and Ruben. I miss monthly East Hills Board chamber meetings with Michael, Brooke and…. I can’t wait to resume my weekly breakfast group with Tina, Stephanie, and Cole. Valor essential oil uplifts my sullen mood, and supports my emotional health.

Masking-up is something I never thought would be part of ordinary life, but yet it is. To feel comfortable I apply Peppermint essential oil to my chest. Peppermint E.O. increases the circulation and opens my respiratory system helping me breathe easier. As I head back to the gym sometime soon, I’ll want to make sure I have this on during my cardio-barre class:)
Thieves Hand Sanitizer to remove 99.9% of the germs that we may pick up at Ralphs’, Lowe’s or Starbucks.
