At this time of year, we see, hear and breathe about the Babe who was born in a manger. This Babe was visited from afar by the Wisemen, heralded by Angels, looked upon by Shepherds and born by a Virgin. But have we become bored and tired in our thoughts and ideas about this Babe? You may ask how can you say this? I see and hear it. In the blown-up manger scene on a front lawn, songs that are sung thoughtlessly or as words uttered, “I can’t get into the Christmas spirit”.
So I’d like to step back at… Who is this Babe? What we are to do with Him?
Isaiah 9: 6 reads, “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder, and His name is called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
Allow me to paraphrase that verse. “Gifted to each one of us is the Son of God. He shall rule and reign on Earth and in Heaven. He is Unique and Miraculous. He is your Counselor whose wisdom is beyond human understanding. One who is Mightier than anyone we can conceive. He is your compassionate Father whose divine reign will bring peace to our hearts, minds, and souls.” WOW!
In Luke 2:11 we see the fulfillment of this Old Testament prophecy, “For unto you is born this day, in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord”
In that simple verse, we see this Babe is the prophesied Messiah, who is also the Lord God himself.
I ask you and myself, “ What should we do with this knowledge of this Babe?
“the Wisemen saw the child…fell down and worshiped Him. opening their treasures, offered Him gifts, gold, frankincense and myrrh” – Matthew 2:11.
“and the shepherds…glorifying and praising God…” Luke 2:20.
“Mary treasured up all these things…” Luke 2:19
We should do as the Wisemen. Search for the Christ, fall down in worship then give our best gifts. React as the shepherds. Celebrate and praise God for the gift of this Babe. Be still, as Mary was. Cherish the gift of eternal life that this Babe brings.
May your Christmas be fulfilled by knowing Him and sharing His gift of love with others.
love to you,
