Wellness [wel-nis] noun
-the quality or state of being healthy in body and mind, especially as the result of deliberate effort.
I thought I was well, until the day I realized my stress level was causing health and relationship issues. At my annual doctor visit, I was told, “You’re pre-diabetic, your cholesterol range is not ideal and your blood pressure is outside the normal range.”
I was also quick to jump down my husband’s throat for the simplest thing.
It was time change but what did change look like?

I’d heard lavender was calming so I ran to the store and bought my first bottle. I inhaled it infrequently. It didn’t do much – what could I expect from a cheap bottle of essential oil and infrequent use?
Later that year, my son and daughter-in-law gave me my first “premium starter kit”. A gift that included 12 essential oils. Being a learner, I dug in to unearth this treasure that was in front of me. The first treasure I discovered, the high-quality lavender essential oil and my diffuser. As I routinely diffused the lavender my anxiety level lessened.
I was on a mission to discover the rest of the gifts they had given me. Thieves to bolster my immune system. Purification to cleanse the air in my home. Lemon to support my circulatory system. Over the next few months I developed a regimen of using my Young Living Essential Oils. I noticed a boost in my immunity level and marked drop in my stress level. As I look back, essential oils were the first step on my wellness journey.

The next change, a stronger body. I incorporated Cardio Barre, Pilates, Stretching, Planking and Walking into my exercise routine. (don’t freak out – I rotate these)
After that? Ditch the home cleaning chemicals. Chemical cleaning replaced with a Thieves, Baking Soda, Vinegar and Purification Cleaning routine.

Food was the following hurdle. Sugar, that was a must-have 3 times a day was replaced by exploration of tasty and healthy recipes. We now enjoy tastier and healthier meals. (Portobello Mushroom Fajitas, Szechuan Chicken Stir-Fry, and Grilled Vegetable Platter. Popcorn or an occasional dark chocolate replaced the sugar.
What’s next in my journey? My personal beauty routine: Shampoo, Body Wash, Make-up.
The point… Wellness enhances relationships with those around me. Wellness provides the energy I need to do what God has called me too.
Plus 4 years into this wellness journey I experience:
- Emotional well-being
- 2 years of doctor check-ups without a warning in them.
- Stronger body and brighter skin.
- Smile on my face.
- Healthy relationships.

My challenge to you: Begin your wellness journey today.
Begin it in the place that fits your needs and lifestyle:
- Take a few more steps by parking further from the office.
- Eat a salad topped with tasty EVOO instead of ranch dressing.
- Invest in your own essential oil premium starter kit.
You’ll notice in the definition, wellness is the result of a deliberate effort.
I’m here to encourage you in your effort and journey. Let me know your goal, so I may encourage you in your new lifestyle.
Do it for yourself, your family and your creator, God.
In Christ,
Debbie
