struggle [struhg-uhl]1. to contend with an adversary or opposing force. 2. to contend resolutely with a task, problem
Lately I have heard stories of many who are struggling. I’m struggling to find a job. They’re struggling to make ends meet. She’s struggling to lose weight. We’re struggling with family relationships…the list goes on.
After 3 weeks on rain break, I took my Saturday morning power walk. I walked down the hill with no problem. I turned around, looked up at the long hill and thought, “There’s no easy way to reach my home, short of calling an Uber! I’ll need to struggle to get back up this hill.” Why did I decide to struggle? To reach home. More than that, I desired the benefit of aerobic exercise and being physically strong.
As I finished my walk up that hill, God reminded me that He knows we will struggle in this life, in the small and in the big. The author of Hebrews reminds believers, “But recall the former days when, after you were enlightened (spirtually), you endured a hard struggle with sufferings.” Hebrews 10:32
Believe me, walking up the long hill was nothing close to what the Hebrew Christians endured. They were being beaten and chastised. They watched their friends thrown into jail for believing differently than the crowd.
In the United States, we no longer face those exact challenges those early Christians did. Yet we still struggle.
Have you felt beaten up because you can’t make ends meet?
Been chastised by your co-workers because you act differently than they do?
Watched as your children are bullied?
Going back to those Hebrew believers, the times have changed but the principles have not. The author tells those who were struggling, “Don’t throw in the towel. “Don’t give up. There is a reward, eternal life!” (Hebrews 10:35, 36) In Matthew 9:20-22 Jesus tells us of a woman who had struggled with an illness for years. She too received a reward; one of renewed health and eternal life. (He had a mission for her to complete so He renewed her health plus gave her the best gift, eternal life)
You too, have a reward waiting for you.
The reward for you looking for a job: Determination!
The reward for you on the long road to lose weight: Health!
The reward for you who endure long nights awake with your littles: Love!
The reward for you who face teasing because you believe Jesus is your Savior: Eternal Life!
You say – I’m struggling, I’m fighting but I can’t do it any more. TAKE HEART! God, in His wisdom gave us a prescription of how we are to struggle. “For this I toil, struggling with all HIS ENERGY that He powerfully works within me.” Colossians 1:29 (the Amplified version says, “to the point of exhaustion”)
Know that whatever God has planned for you, He will help you through it. He’s there in the good, bad and the ugly. He has a place for you to be in your life and He will get you just where you need to be.
God has shown me that life’s challenges are worth the struggle. Why? The rewards far surpass the pain. #WorthTheStruggle
Let me know the rewards you have received once you passed the finish line on your struggles.
Love in Him,
