Of late I’ve been feeling discouraged. I recently sold a successful business. I expected my new business, as a Natural Health Educator, to become an instant success.
My head tells me, “It takes time to build.” That does not keep me from feeling discouraged.
I’m betting you’ve felt discouraged too.
- The things you’re teaching your children aren’t taking root. Now they are making poor choices.
- You spent the day sharing with a soon-to-be client the value your service. The next week you find out they chose someone else.
- You’ve been trying to lose weight and you’ve hit that plateau.
I could go on…
Joshua, you know the one that God told Be strong and Courageous, was discouraged too.
“After the death of Moses, the servant of God, God spoke to Joshua, Moses’ assistant: Moses my servant is dead.”
Moses, Joshua’s mentor was dead. Talk about discouragement. But what did God say to Joshua?
“Get going. Cross this Jordan River, you and all the people. Cross to the country I’m giving to the People of Israel. I’m giving you every square inch of the land you set your foot on- just as I promised Moses. “
God told Joshua; I accept what you’re feeling, I know you’re discouraged but get up, move on. I have something great for you to do. Plus I’ll give you what you need to complete it.
God said: “Give it everything you have, heart and soul. Make sure you carry out” Don’t be timid; don’t get discouraged. God, your God, is with you every step you take.” Joshua 1:1-19 Message Ver.
There is a song, that has been a favorite for years, Dare You to Move by Switchfoot. (Please take a moment to watch the video.)
The song repeats: I dare you to move, I dare you to lift yourself up off the floor, I dare you to move
When discouraged we are frozen. We focus on ourselves, not what God has called us to do. We lack belief in ourselves. We hinder our own progress.
If we’re to overcome our obstacles, this is the message to broadcast -internally and externally. We will not be stopped by failure, we will not be used or distracted by external noise. We will chisel and peg away at the obstacle until it is gone.– The Obstacle is the Way, Ryan Holiday
We should turn our discouragement into dogged determination. To complete the task God has set before us. We are to dare ourselves to move. To pray to God for wisdom in what that walk looks like.
Like Joshua, I talked to God, asked Him for encouragement, heard His Word and began to move.
God gave me encouragement in a fashion unique to what I had imagined. My picture of encouragement was winning several new clients during my classes. But no, my encouragement came late one night. A friend reached out to me to ask if I had a specific product on hand to boost her immune system. (Her family was sick, she was concerned about getting sick since she was their caregiver.) I delivered it to her that next morning. When I delivered it, she had the biggest smile on her face. I knew then, God’s encouragement came in the form of a smile and helping another. P.S. I just texted her and she is feeling great and so is her family – more encouragement.
I dare you today to shake off your discouragement and move!
God will give you encouragement in the way He knows will most bless those around you. In the process He will grow you into His likeness.
Encouraged in His guidance,
