My husband and I recently sold our business of 35 years. To say the least, part of our identity’s were tied to that business. After 12 months of soul searching, we both have decided to launch new career paths. To take the next step…
A week ago, during lunch, I asked my husband if he was fearful to launch his new career. He candidly said, “Yes, I’m scared to death”. I laughed, then answered, “Good,‘cuz that’s me too”. Just today, I mentioned to a friend about my fear. She too has recently launched a new career. She also agreed she too has fear.
Is our fear in taking that next step or is it fear of failure? It’s failure! After running a successful business for 35 years, I asked myself what if I fail? What if people question why I have a second career instead of retiring? What if people think less of me? What if I think I can do this and then I fail? What if, what if, what if…
I did not like the self-talk I was hearing from myself. I then gave myself permission to dream instead of fail. Not let other’s opinions hold me back. Step out in faith. Why, so I could succeed!
“The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams”— Eleanor Roosevelt
I have now given myself permission to dream in order to succeed.
Working past the fear of failure has drawn me to a point where I can now dream and see how to succeed. I will:
- Take one step at a time.
- Dream BIG!
- Be focused on my purpose.
- Keep trying (practice).
- Continue to learn in my field.
- Apprentice under mentors.
- Pray!
- Find a friend who will be my encourager
- Be the individual who God designed me to be.
Don’t let fear hold you back. Take that next step to your dream.
What is the next step you want to take? Start a new career? Quit your job and be a stay at home mom? Go back to school? Take your fantasy vacation! Dream big ladies!
Envision your dream, take that first step, take it now. Succeed!
Share with me your dream.
